Senate candidate to kick-off economic tour

STAMFORD (AP) -- State Rep. William Tong, D-147, a U.S. Senate candidate who currently represents Stamford and New Canaan, is starting a statewide tour to promote his plan to revitalize the nation's economy and help struggling Connecticut families.

Tong is kicking off his "Reclaim the Dream Tour" on Jan. 30 at the Great Wall Restaurant in New Haven. Tong's parents were Chinese immigrants who began their lives in the U.S. running a Chinese restaurant.

The Stamford lawmaker unveiled his economic plan this week. It includes a national investment in vocational and technical schools; reauthorizing the old Build America Bonds program to help rebuild the nation's infrastructure; and refinancing all federally-backed mortgages to a four percent rate.

Tong is vying against U.S. Rep. Chris Murphy and former Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz (BY'-suh-wits) for the Democratic Party's endorsement.
