Stamford man pleads guilty in wrong-way NY crash

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) -- A Stamford man has admitted to driving drunk the wrong way on a New York highway, resulting in a head-on collision with another car.

Ricardo Martinez-Arenas pleaded guilty Tuesday to charges of aggravated vehicular assault and aggravated driving while intoxicated.

Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore said the Stamford resident was driving southbound in the northbound lanes of Interstate 684 in the Town of Lewisboro on April 24 when he collided with a car carrying three women.

The women, ages 18-21, sustained non-life threatening injuries.

Martinez-Arenas was seriously injured and uses a wheelchair.

DiFiore said he had a blood alcohol level almost two times the legal limit.

He faces five to 15 years in prison when he's sentenced Oct. 19.
