Posted on 08/30/2010
Staff Report STAMFORD -- An 87-year-old Stamford woman who was partially ejected from her vehicle early Monday morning after striking a large boulder near Clay Hill Road later died from her injuries, according to Stamford Hospital officials. Elissa Anselmo, 87, was traveling east on Clay Hill Road at approximately 7:40 a.m. when her 2010 Subaru Imbreva veered to the right, departed from the highway and struck a large boulder, according to Stamford Police Sgt. Andrew Gallagher, supervisor of the department's Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad. The vehicle then flipped onto its left side at 156 Clay Hill Road, partially ejecting Anselmo from the vehicle, he said. Anselmo, who needed to be extricated from her vehicle, sustained "severe and incapacitating" injuries to her lower extremities and was transported to Stamford Hospital, according to police. She later succumbed to her injuries at the hospital, according to Scott Orstad, the hospital's manager of Corporate Communications. Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad personnel are still investigating the one-vehicle collision, police said.
