Posted on 08/30/2010
STAMFORD -- A Stamford man died over the weekend after falling off his bike last Thursday afternoon, according to police. On Thursday, Aug. 26, at approximately 1:30 p.m., officers responded to the area of North Wilton Road and Valley Road in New Canaan for a report of a bicyclist lying in the roadway, according to New Canaan Police officials. Upon arrival, they found Michael Bookstone, 58, of Stamford, in the roadway on North Wilton Road. Bookstone, who was not wearing a helmet, was conscious but unresponsive, police said. He was transported to Norwalk Hospital by the New Canaan Volunteer Ambulance Corps. On Saturday, Aug. 28, at approximately 7:30 p.m., the New Canaan Police Department was notified that Bookstone died from his injuries. A preliminary investigation indicates that an underlying medical condition may have resulted in Bookstone falling off of his bicycle, according to police. There is no evidence to support that he was struck by a vehicle, police said. The accident is currently under investigation.
