Norwalk Hospital promotes healthy weight program

NORWALK

With all the talk about obesity and health in the news, what can those who are overweight do to shed those unwanted pounds?

To help, Norwalk Hospital offers the Transformations Weight Loss Program, according to a news release.

If you're asking yourself, "who can help me to stick with a healthy yet effective diet and exercise program?" consider Barbara Schmidt, Norwalk Hospital's Nutrition Lifestyle Specialist, who discusses how to become a healthier eater, a smarter grocery shopper, and a more avid exerciser.

"It's not about being on a diet or deprivation," says Schmidt, a registered dietitian who has been down this road herself. "It's about learning how to eat healthy and focusing on foods that are good for you."

She tells her classes, "If you are eating the right foods, you will not crave the others, and as a bonus, you will lose weight."

Schmidt has provided classes using the Transformations model for several years in several different locations, and brought her program to Norwalk Hospital in 2007. Daytime classes begin on Sept. 7 and evening classes begin on Sept. 9, with additional classes planned for the late fall and winter.

For questions about the program, or to reserve, you can e-mail nutrition@norwalkhealth.org, or call Cindy Allen at (203) 855-3548.
