'It's Reigning Cats & Dogs' auction to benefit local animal charities

STAMFORD -- The Stamford Downtown Special Services District will be holding an auction on Sept. 15 for the city's summer-long public art project, "It's Reigning Cats & Dogs."

The exhibit has featured fiberglass cat and dog sculptures, painted and embellished by local artists, and displayed in a number of locations throughout the city. The sculptures will be available for bidding at an auction starting at 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 15 at Seven Landmark Square in Stamford. The auction will be conducted by auctioneers Bobby Valentine and Laurie Guzda McEvoy.

The animal sculptures, decorated by 34 accomplished artists from the region, include "Corn Dog," a dog painted by Eddie Nino with corn kernels and husk; "Everyone's Best Friend," a dog by Suzan Waldinger decorated with customized handprints; and "In the Dog House" by Pamela Riley-Abear, which features its very own dog house. Those wishing to attend should RSVP by Sept. 1.

A portion of the proceeds will benefit Friends of Felines, OPIN (Outreach to Pets in Need) and the Stamford Dog Park.

To receive an invitation to this event, visit the event page at www.stamford-downtown.com or call 203-348-5285.
