STAMFORD -- Beautiful weather, plenty of farm animals and more than 5,000 eggs for children to scramble after made for a spectacular Easter Egg Hunt at Heckscher Farm at the Stamford Museum & Nature Center on Saturday, April 3.

"One, two, three, ... nine, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14," said Elijah Raffington, 6, of White Plains, N.Y., tallying his haul of brightly colored Easter eggs. "I just like getting the most eggs, because the more eggs you get the more treats you get."

Indeed. Elijah, his 4-year-old brother Gabriel, and other children participating in the annual Easter Egg Hunt at the Nature Center redeemed their baskets of plastic eggs for goody bags of chocolates and other treats.

"It's for the fun. The fun and the animals. The kids love the farm," said Kendra Raffington, explaining why she brought her two sons to the egg hunt. "The last time we were here (the boys) had winter coats on and hats and gloves. That was about two years ago for Easter. It was very cold. Big difference this year!"

Pablo Rivadeneyra of Norwalk got in on the fun by wearing bunny ears as his nearly 2-year-old daughter Anais scooped up eggs and mother Lili looked on. Saturday marked their first time to the annual egg hunt at the nature center.

"Anais is enjoying it and she's very happy today. The kids are enjoying it. They love it," Rivadeneyra said. "Also the parents are loving it. It's a great time for both."

Staff and volunteers rolled out the plastic eggs onto the farm grounds, as parents pointed their children in the right direction. Also on hand were the farm's everyday attractions. That meant Dakota the Clydesdale, Maggie the Brown Swiss Cow and Speedbump the Goat.

The egg hunt, which was free for museum members and paid admission for others, started at 10 a.m. and wrapped up at midday. By that time, the nature center had given out more than 2,000 prize baskets and circulated more than 5,000 Easter eggs, according to Lauren Satterfield, Stamford Museum & Nature Center farm director. Asked how Saturday's egg hunt differed from egg hunts in past years, she didn't have to think too long.

"We've got sun. The last four years have been rain," Satterfield said.
