Stories set in Pakistan win $20,000 prize

NEW YORK (AP) -- A debut collection of short stories set in Pakistan has won a $20,000 award. Daniyal Mueenuddin's "In Other Rooms, Other Wonders" on Wednesday won the Story Prize, given annually for outstanding short fiction. The other nominees were Victoria Patterson for "Drift" and Wells Tower for "Everything Ravaged, Everything Burned." Each received $5,000. The award was founded in 2004. Previous winners include Edwidge Danticat, Mary Gordon and Tobias Wolff.
