Trinity rolls into FCIAC semifinals

STAMFORD -- The Trinity High girls basketball team turned in a solid performance in its opening game of the FCIAC playoffs.

The second-seeded Lady Crusaders dispatched No. 7 Danbury 57-35 on Saturday, Feb. 20 at the Walsh Gymnasium to vault into the FCIAC Tournament semifinals.

Trinity (18-3) played No. 3 Ridgefield in the semis on Wednesday, Feb. 24 at Fairfield Ludlowe. The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 23 but because of inclement weather, the game was postponed to Wednesday.

The championship game was rescheduled for Friday, Feb. 26, also at Fairfield Ludlowe.

The Lady Crusaders defeated Ridgefield 41-37 at home on Feb. 15.

Against the Hatters, Trinity was hitting on all cylinders, jumping out to a 17-2 lead midway through the first quarter. At the half, the Crusaders had a 28-16 lead and they cruised the rest of the way.

Cayleigh Griffin led Trinity with 14 points. Erin Sottosanti aided the cause with 11 points and Mackenzie Griffin added 10.
