Stamford hosts H1N1 flu vaccination clinic for high risk population

STAMFORD -- The Stamford Department of Health and Social Services will hold its second H1N1 walk-in vaccination clinic in partnership with Stamford Hospital on Nov. 17.

The clinic, which is designated for Stamford and Darien residents, will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Tully Health Center, 32 Strawberry Hill Court. The H1N1, or swine flu, vaccine will be offered to pregnant women; children 6 months to 35 months of age; and children 36 months to 6 years of age with underlying medical conditions only. No appointments are necessary and the vaccination is free.

Due to limited supplies of the vaccine, the Stamford Department of Health and Social Services is following Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance on vaccinating high risk groups at this time, according to Stamford health officials. As more vaccine becomes available, the department will expand the clinics to include more target groups in the community.

The department also continues to accept appointments for the live-attenuated H1N1 spray vaccine for healthy children ages 2 to 18 and healthy, non-pregnant household contacts, or care givers of infants younger than 6 months in the community. Appointments can be made by calling the Stamford Department of Health & Social Services H1N1 vaccine scheduling line at 203-977-6172.

Further information can be found at the City of Stamford Web site, www.cityofstamford.org, or by calling the Stamford Department of Health and Social Services H1N1 Hotline, 203-977-4213.
