Stamford Highlights

Visions of gingerbread in Stamford Creative gingerbread confections constructed by area chefs will be on exhibit and up for auction as part of Stamford Museum & Nature Center's first annual "Visions of Gingerbread:The Sweetest Architects" holiday exhibition. Visitors will be able to place a bid on each of the unique creations -- inspired by some of the most well known architecture of our time -- starting Nov. 7 through Dec. 20. Silent auction proceeds will benefit Stamford Museum & Nature Center's educational mission. These creative confections, consisting completely of edible materials, will be revealed for the first time at the members' opening reception on Nov. 6. A panel of special guest judges will award first, second and third place at the members' opening. Visitors will have the opportunity to vote for fan favorite at the Museum and through an online poll hosted on TheStamfordLife.com. Imaginative creations from Cake Suite, Frank & Julio, Sweet on You, Sweet Lisa's, FoodStudio, Michael Joseph's, DiMare's, Black Forest Pastry Shop, LexZee Gourmet, and Stamford Hilton will be among those on display and included in the silent auction. Organ recital at St. Francis Church Stephen Rapp, world-class musician who has performed in the US, Europe and Japan, will perform on St. Francis Episcopal Church's Kolzelman Pipe Organ on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 4 p.m. Pieces to be performed include Saint-Saens' "Prelude" and "Fugue in E-flat Major," Johann Sebastian Bach's "Jig"Fugue in G Major, William Albright's "The King of Instruments for Organ Solo" and "Narrator." Singer and actor Salvatore Basile will join Rapp on the Albright piece. A reception will follow the performance. For more information call 322-0027. Stamford Chorale welcomes singers The Stamford Chorale invites singers to join. Rehearsals take place at The Atria 77 Third St., Stamford. All voice parts are welcome. No auditions required.
