Connecticut Amateur Golf -- Mike Ballo charges into the Round of 32 with Cook, Murdoch

Staff Report DARIEN -- Stamford's Mike Ballo, playing on his home course of Woodway Country Club, shot a 71 on Tuesday, giving him a two-day total of 146 and putting him into a tie for fourth and into the Round of 32 at the 107th Connecticut Amateur Golf Championship. Ballo and NIck Cook (72-74-146) of Sterling Farms both finished three shots behind second round stroke play leader Kevin Josephson of Timberlin (69-74-143). Sterling Farms golfer Alex Murdoch was in a tie for 27th with a 77-74-151 and also qualified for the Round of 32, which begins Wednesday. Ballo will match up against TJ Trimboli of Norwalk (151) at 8:24 a.m.; Murdoch faces Brian Murphy of Wilton (145) at 9:18 a.m.; and Cook tees of at 9:36 a.m., against Richard Eilczewski (151) of Shennecossett. The Round of 16 takes place on Wednesday afternoon. Peter Ballo (77-75-152) of Woodway was in a tie for 32nd, but it was Jeff Hatten who earned the tie breaker by virtue of his 76-76-152. Other city golfers who didn't make the cut include: Bart Weissman of Sterling Farms (T-56, 78-77-155), and Christopher LaPolice of Sterling Farms (T-108th, 86-79-165).
