Secret of The Office' spinoff remains safe

By Kevin Pang

Chicago Tribune

One of the biggest Hollywood secrets is what will be the premise of the NBC spinoff from the producers of "The Office."

We know it's set to premiere in April. We know that it stars "Saturday Night Live's" Amy Poehler and "The Office's" Rashida Jones and that it will have nothing to do with "The Office."

We also know Aziz Ansari, from the MTV sketch show "Human Giant," will be in it. But we couldn't pry much out of Ansari.

Q. Scoop, please.

A. It'll be called "Cory in the House." The premise is Raven's brother Cory moves into the White House because his dad becomes the White House chef.

Q. That's the premise of the "That's So Raven" spinoff.

A. I'm allowed to talk as much about that as I want.

Q. Try again.

A. It'll be a documentary show from Mike Schur and Greg Daniels, the executive producers from "The Office." They'll have the talking-head segments (the one-on-one interviews on "The Office").

Q. Is the show grounded in our world or some parallel reality?

A. We're not in some magical land.

Q. There are reports that Rashida Jones will play a nurse whose boyfriend suffers a "strange injury." Are you sure this isn't a spinoff of "Scrubs"?

A. No, not "Scrubs Part 2." You know when McDonald's debuted the McGriddle, and people said, "Oh my God, this is crazy and totally different from what I was expecting?" Greg and Mike have done the TV equivalent of injecting syrup in the bun.
