STAMFORD — A Stamford teen was arrested after he tried to pawn two guitars which police say he stole, Monday afternoon.

A 16-year-old male was picked up by police Monday at Daddy's Junkie Music on Broad Street, after trying to pawn two guitars which were reported stolen earlier in the day.

According to Lt. Sean Cooney, a police spokesman, police responded to a burglary a residential address on 8th Street near Summer Street around 1:30 p.m. The victim, who police did not identify, said someone had broken into his home and taken two guitars and a Nintendo Wii. The value of the three items is about $1,500 police said.

The victim suggested to police they call the Broad Street music store to ask about getting serial numbers for the guitars so police could track the goods if they were sold.

"When investigators called the store, the owner said two teens had just tried to sell guitars (matching the description of the stolen items), but he wouldn't buy them because they were under 18," Cooney said.

According to Cooney, the teen left the store to get an adult. When police arrived at the store, they to found one of the guitars still at the store. The owner told police the teen had left guitar behind and promised to return. Police brought the victim to the store, who then positively identified the guitar as his.

Police waited for the alleged burglar, and upon his arrival arrested him. After searching the 16-year-old's car, they found the stolen Wii. Police also recovered four small bags of marijuana, Cooney said. He was accompanied by two other males, but neither was arrested Monday.

"We are certain the other two at the store were not involved (in the burglary)," Cooney said.

The teens parents were immediately notified. On Monday, the alleged burglar was being held on a $10,000 bond, Cooney said.

The teen has been charged with burglary in third degree, larceny in the fourth degree and possession of marijuana. He is set to appear in court on May 21.
