Jennifer Lee, who led the Westhill volleyball program for the past two seasons, has resigned her position, according to atheltic director Mike King.
King said Lee resigned the post because her husband is taking a job out of state and the family will be re-locating.
Westhill did not make the state tournament during Lee's tenure with the Vikings, who were 6-12 last season.
Baseball
After their big inner-city win over Trinity on Monday (see Page C1), the Vikings suffered their first diamond loss of the season with a 3-2 defeat against Ridgefield on Tuesday.
The Vikings scored their runs in the bottom of the seventh on Jon Rather's RBI triple and Dave Fogel's sacrifice fly.
Rather plated two runs with three singles, leading the Vikings to a 6-4 win over Weston in their season-opener on Thursday, April 3. T.J. Hickey got the win, fanning five in six innings.
Softball
The Vikings only managed one hit against Masuk's Division I-bound pitcher, Rachel Fico, and lost a tight 1-0 ball game in its season-opener on Thursday, April 3.
Lynette Martinez had Westhill's only hit, a double.
Starting pitcher Jen Joseph was injured in the game, hurting her finger on a bunt but was expected to be back by the end of the week.
After pounding Trinity Catholic on Monday (see Page C1), Westhill then ran its record to 2-1 with a 4-1 win over Ridgefield on Tuesday.
Julie Osipow had four hits while catcher Lynette Martinez slammed a two-run home run to spark the offense.
Boys Lacrosse
The Vikings jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but 17 unanswered Wilton goals turned things around in an 18-5 season-opening defeat on Wednesday, April 2. Patrick Green notched the hat trick for Westhill and also dished out two assists.
On Friday, April 4, the Vikings hosted Norwalk in the rain and were on the short end of a 14-9 defeat.
Green had two goals and two assists for Westhill while Henry Graves (1 assist), Ryan DiPietro and Sam Raymond each had two goals, too. Pedro Casanova added one more while Alex Behzad made 17 saves.
The week got better for the Vikings, however, as a 16-0 drubbing of Bridgeport Central on Tuesday evened Westhill's record to 2-2.
David Aronica scored five goals to lead Westhill in that game while Hentry Graves added four goals.
Golf
Darien defeated Westhill, 169-178, in the opening golf match of the season on Thursday, April 3. Alli Oakes' 40 led the Vikings while Michael Howard-Johnson had a 44.
The Vikings rebounded, however, with a 178-204 win over McMahon on Tuesday. Oakes had 40 to be the day's low scorer while Brian Frelich, playing out of the No. 3 slot, fired a 41.
Girls Tennis
The Vikings got wins at first singles and first and second doubles, but fell 4-3 to Staples in its season-opening match on Wednesday, April 2. Vanessa Petrini's 6-0, 6-1 win started the day at first singles while the doubles teams of Victoria Druehl and Jenna Carroll (6-2, 7-6) and Molly Carson and Lane Sharmsky (6-2, 3-6, 6-4) also won.
The Vikings bounced back in match two, beating Wilton, 4-3. Petrini (6-0, 6-0) won the lone singles match as Westhill's doubles teams swept to give the Vikings the win.
Druehl and Carroll (7-5, 6-4), Carson and Sharmsky (6-4, 6-7, 6-4) and Mollie Siebert and Suzanne Cohen (6-4, 6-1) tilted the match in Westhill's favor.
On Tuesday, the Vikings got a 7-0 sweep over inner city rival Trinity.
Petrini, Liza Smeraldi, Allison Pomerantz, and Lillia Kozyuk earned singles wins while Druehl and Carroll, Siebert and Cohen and Sharnsky and Carson earned doubles victories.
Boys Tennis
Westhill evened its record at 2-2 with a 7-0 win over Trinity Catholic on Tuesday.
