Metro-North train ride home still a 'happy hour'
It's a tradition that won't be hailed by some, but a number of riders of Metro-North trains who choose to have a touch of the grape as they wind down on the commute home are pleased.
Cheers.
The bar cars some are being rehabilitated will continue to ride the rails and vendors will continue to sell beer and wine on train platforms at Grand Central to homebound riders.
While a number of incidents aboard both Metro-North and Long Island trains resulted in arrests, many were found to be the result of drinking before even entering the station. The number was infinitesimal when contrasted to the number of riders each day.
Thousands of passengers signed petitions opposing the booze ban.
As one rider who favors a beer on his ride home remarked "It's one of the things that makes this slog north palatable."
Cheers.
