Kenneth Allen Andrus
Formerly of Redding and Norwalk
Kenneth Allen Andrus of the Village at Brookfield Commons, formerly of Redding and Norwalk passed away peacefully on February 2. He was the husband of the late Winifred Norman Andrus for 64 years until her death in 2010.
Ken was born on April 16, 1918 in Enosburg Falls, VT, a son of the late Henry Ladd Andrus and Ruth Hogaboom Andrus. In 1924 the family relocated to Ridgefield, CT where Ken graduated High School in 1936. In May 1937 he began his employment with Edwards and Company in Norwalk, manufacturing signaling devices and fire alarm systems used in hospitals, schools and the United Nations building in NYC. In 1943 Ken was drafted into the US Army and after basic training, began radar training in the Signal Corp. After 23 days at sea his radar unit arrived in Italy with General Mark W Clark’s Fifth Army at the northern tip of Corsica. When W.W.II ended he was honorably discharged with a Good Conduct Medal and returned to Edwards and Company until his retirement in 1980.
He was an active member of Long Ridge United Methodist Church and loved tending to his beautiful flower gardens and growing vegetables on his property In Redding. Due to advancing age and declining health Ken and Winnie moved to ”The Village” assisted living in Brookfield in 2007.
Ken is survived by his loving daughter Laurel Partrick and her husband Bruce, his devoted son Kenneth H. Andrus and his wife Evie all of New Milford, 5 grandchildren, George Poodiack and his wife Jessica, Melissa DellaCorte and her husband Richard, Will Quinnell and his wife Aldana, Stephen Partrick and Lisa Partrick. Ken leaves 8 great grandchildren, Arianna, Aidan and Addison DellaCorte, Chase, Owen and Dillon Poodiack and Cameron and Catherine Partrick and his beloved niece Cynthia Babbott of Vermont. He was predeceased by his brother Marcus Winston and his sister Esther Andrus Holly.
The family would like to thank the staff at The Village at Brookfield Common for the excellent loving care given to Ken in his final years. He was easy to care for, never complained and always said thank you with a smile for any help he received. He will be remembered as an amazing gentle soul, loving husband and father and a devout Christian.
The family will receive friends at the Bouton Funeral Home in Georgetown from 1pm-3pm on Sunday, February 5th. Funeral Services will be held at the Long Ridge United Methodist Church, Danbury on Monday, February 6th at 11am. Interment will be in Hulls Cemetery on Redding Rd (Route 53) in Redding.
